First Rocky Ford cantaloupes on Kansas City market this week

Kansas City reports a quiet demand for Arkansas and southern Missouri cantaloupes as abundant homegrown stock meets a moderate call. Prices range 35 to 40 cents per third bushel for homegrown cants, $1 to $1.50 for southern crates, and 50 to 1.0 for flats. Utah cants fetch 2.25 a crate. Rocky Ford season opens with fair quality and good prices. Colorado predicts average crop. watermelons slow with $90 to $150 per car offered.

Arrivals of apples in Chicago this week were heavier than any prior period, with a ample supply of both fancy and common stock. Demand favored extra fancy No 1 stock while common stock moved slowly, driving a 2.5 cent per barrel price drop. Prices ranged from $3.25 to $3.75 for Duchess and Maiden Blush to $2.50-$3 for Red Astrakhan, Green Pippins, Chenango Strawberries, and Benoni averages.
