August reports show Michigan Missouri and Illinois expect below and around average apple yields with some counties in Michigan and Missouri showing gains while others fall short. Industry notes a shift toward box packing, varied car shipments, and weather and pests influencing overall production with final statewide forecasts hovering near mid range.
Falls City expects to ship 59 to 75 cars with a much better crop than 1915. Another report cites 106 cars. Salem reports 39 cars, 80 percent of 1915. Uneten in Washington county lists 60 cars, 20 percent rise. Blair in the same county shows 35 to 59 cars, 75 percent of 1916. Brownvills Nemaha county: 6 to 20 cars, 50 percent of last year, but better quality. Peru in the same county shows 9 to 10 cars, decreasing but with more good.
The July crop report places Nebraska at 60 percent of the ten year average with an indicated 791,600 barrels of apples, down from last year’s 1,267,000. The August update lifts state prospects to 63.5 percent but still below the average, with 915,400 barrels estimated and last year at 3,383,000 barrels.
Attorneys for D C Turnipseed of Union Springs Alabama dismissed the $40 000 damage suit against United Can Company filed in the U S Court in Cincinnati The suit claimed losses on over 300 000 cans of peseless pack ended in 1912 at Peachburg The case was brought to a close after a compromise settlement described as satisfactory by Turnipseed’s counsel
Announcement reports the International Apple Shippers convention moving to Niagara Falls for next Wednesday Thursday and Friday with special trains revised. Most travelers to the Canadian trip will head to Niagara Falls first then Toronto, with many to board Michigan Central lines leaving 5 40 p m Tuesday for arrival Wednesday morning. About 30 reservations had been made. inquiries and reservations directed to Michigan Central or C A Ferr at 74 W South Water Street.
Los Angeles August 11.1. J -Chse, known as Pure Gall Case, has resigned from the Mutual Orange Distributors of Redlands after years as sales manager. Plans for the future are undisclosed. it’s believed he may enter shipping or brokerage dealing with oranges and lemons. Archie Pruitt and W. Tillotson remain active in the sales department of the M.O.D.

Prices ranged from 128 to 300 dollars per load or shipment depending on size, with receipts mostly from Oklahoma and Missouri points. Local distributors anticipate Missouri demand but fear slower outside trade unless prices soften.
The Wisconsin Cranberry Growers Association met at the M. O. Potter bog in Cranmoor on Aug 11. Growers blamed dry weather for blight and predicted smaller crops without rain. The group favored keeping the experiment station locally, opposed moving it to the Mather District, and planned a state fair exhibit highlighting self support. Andrew Scaris warned industry optimism remains strong with new bagging by several large companies.
The Kaw Valley potato movement continues to shrink with only a few cars loaded daily. By midweek about 1,950 cars had shipped out of the valley plus 130 locally marketed by growers, totaling roughly 1,155 cars for the season. Carrot shipments remain unlikely to continue. carrot demand has been strong and track prices neared a dollar. San Benito Tex Aug 11 Over 6000 acres in Texas are planted in citrus fruits says Edly Ayres chief Inspector of orchards and nurseries for the State Department of Agriculture The breakdown includes 544 acres satsuma 142% acres grapefruit 298% acres round oranges 298% acres lemons 38% acres kumquats 31 acres and about 5 available acres in other fruits There are 200 trees in grapefruit on the San Benito tract.
Pacific coast states expected to ship 21 000 to 24 000 carloads of apples with Washington 16 000 to 17 000, Oregon 2 800 to 3 500, California 3 200 to 3 600. mountain states short, Idaho Montana Colorado New Mexico limited. At a Kansas Valley melon growers meeting in Rocky Ford Colorado representatives from La Junta to Manzanola backed a petition asking two or more inspectors be sent to the valley for cantaloupe inspections. Growers to supply free auto service and accept federal rules with 30 cent acre assessment and contributions from shipping firms to cover costs. Weather favors a strong haul after August 20 as 8000 acres appear active with major shippers listed including Crutchfield Woolfolk and Patterson-Fope Marketing.
State Fact Inspector J. S. Bittner pursued suspected sale of bad eggs across several firms in Manchester and Colesburg including Fort Wheeler Produce, Wheelers Brothers, Rush & Eppens, and Bris tol Botsinger among others, charging selling or possession of denatured eggs.

Prices quoted: Missouri and Illinois Elberta per bushel basket 3.54 to 2.75, some Missouri crates to 2.90, Arkansas best around 2.26 per crate, Illinois Elbertas in flat cases 1.10 to 1.15.
Aug 11 Chicago report shows berry markets softening as season winds down. Blueberries steady with good supply yet slow sales due to quality. red raspberries and blackberries in light receipt but firm prices for fancy selections. Michigan and Indiana berries dominate, with prices ranging from about 1.50 to 2.50 per crate.
