Ames Iowa April 20 San Jose scale a major pest of apple and peach trees is now confined to eight southeastern Iowa counties says F A Fenton of the Iowa Agricultural Experiment Station entomology section. He recommends liquid lime sulfur spraying just before bud break using seven gallons per 50 gallon barrel for large orchards and one part lime sulfur to seven parts water for small lot spraying. Heavy infestations may require a standard miscible oil but not for peaches except as a last resort. Liquid spray will also control scurfy and oyster shell scales.
