Strawberry Crop Outlook Projects Reduced Midwest Harvest

Tennessee expects between 1200 and 2000 carloads of strawberries this season with about 450 carloads likely to be shipped from the eastern part of the state. The midwestern states report lower acreage and fewer berries to ship than last year.

Tennessee Strawberry Prospects Improve Despite Last Year Drought

Humboldt Tenn April 4 prospects for the strawberry crop in Tennessee are very good with favorable conditions and expected average yields. Plantings are in second and third year and replanting increases acreage by about 50 percent for next season. Express shipments begin around April 20 to 25 with Klondyke, Aroma and Gandy favored in West Middle and East Tennessee.

O'Hearn Not American Produce Company Files Bankruptcy Petition

Patrick O'Hearn filed a personal bankruptcy petition in Minneapolis. The American Produce Company at 335 Plymouth Building is not insolvent and has not filed for bankruptcy. O'Hearn says he has no connection with the firm beyond prior association. The company deals in butter eggs cheese and poultry and is represented by secretary Thomas A Hunter.

Freezing Weather Hits Peaches in Mid Atlantic Belt

Expert opinion splits on damage to peaches pears cherries and other early fruits in Virginia West Virginia and Maryland after a cold spell from Monday night to Wednesday morning.
