A staff correspondent reports Arkansas and Missouri expect a large 1921 strawberry crop despite freezes that caused varying damage. Arkansas acreage rose, with 1,400 to 1,600 cars projected vs 550-600 last year, while Missouri shows strong prospects for a record harvest if weather stays favorable.
New York April 1 a letter from Dixie Produce Company of Savannah Ga says E O Oetgen works for the firm as a sidewalk salesman and general helper and has no role in finances or management. The petition for a charter lists D Corenblum Sadie Corenblum and P Rosman as petitioners. Edgar O Oetgen is said to sign checks as manager and has a history of swindling shippers while previously with the Sweeney Brothers, who claimed he was only an employee.
California fruit news notes a 300 acre rise in Southern California strawberry acreage this year to 1,100 acres, with Moneta district contributing about 800 and San Gabriel district about 300. The rise is paired with cheaper berries due to favorable canning supplies, while last year’s carry-over may limit this season’s production. S. J. Otsu of the Southern California Berry Growers’ Association foresees 30 to 40 percent cheaper berries and increased home canning. About 50 carloads will head to Washington and Oregon, with an update to follow on Page 6A.
In Dallas the Interstate Commerce Commission heard Texas fruit and truck growers press for lower freight rates to avert crippling losses. Railroad representatives defended current charges, claiming rates are essential for railroad welfare, signaling a contentious session with about 200 participants from multiple states and agencies.
Reports from The Packer indicate the freeze damaged some strawberry fields in West Tennessee and western Kentucky, with varied losses by location. Despite losses, overall prospects are bright as favorable winter and spring weather push plants forward, enabling an earlier start to movement around April 10 to 16 and a 34 to 40 percent rise in acreage.
Atlanta April 1 G G Hill who claims to head American Fruit and Produce Company is sending circulars through the South to poultry butter shippers. Inquiries arise about his reliability as circulars were issued last week on blank paper. Address 2865 Edgeware Street. He previously served as Postal Telegraph operator at Birmingham and was discharged. Shipowners have filed frequent complaints about his conduct.
Reports from Chicago say the strawberry acreage in Illinois Indiana Michigan and Wisconsin is not heavy. Shipments are mainly express lots with some carrots. berry industry not as developed as Tennessee Kentucky Arkansas Missouri or southern states. Southern Illinois and Indiana grow some berries commercially and Michigan Wisconsin districts produce a good many berries. Outlook for the season is about a normal crop.
Weather notes indicate berry and fruit plants in Southern Illinois and Indiana will be market ready from May 10 through May 20, with ripening extended to the Northern states from June 1 to June 15. The reports continue on page 4.

H G Bohrke resigns as president and director of the Wenatchee District Co operative Association and plans an assignment of all assets to creditors. He cites inability to meet obligations after growers accepted a 26 cent per box reduction with payments to follow March April and May.

Reports from Nebraska Kansas Iowa Missouri Arkansas and Oklahoma describe widespread damage to apples peaches pears plums and cherries with some late apples and certain cherries surviving. Illinois Indiana and Michigan also report heavy losses as temperatures dip to near zero in places with a blizzard and rapid thaw complicating recovery.
