Arkansas and Missouri strawberry yield to rise despite damage

A staff correspondent reports Arkansas and Missouri expect a large 1921 strawberry crop despite freezes that caused varying damage. Arkansas acreage rose, with 1,400 to 1,600 cars projected vs 550-600 last year, while Missouri shows strong prospects for a record harvest if weather stays favorable.

E O Oetgen Linked to Dixie Produce Co as Salesman

New York April 1 a letter from Dixie Produce Company of Savannah Ga says E O Oetgen works for the firm as a sidewalk salesman and general helper and has no role in finances or management. The petition for a charter lists D Corenblum Sadie Corenblum and P Rosman as petitioners. Edgar O Oetgen is said to sign checks as manager and has a history of swindling shippers while previously with the Sweeney Brothers, who claimed he was only an employee.

California Strawberries Acreage Up in Southern California

California fruit news notes a 300 acre rise in Southern California strawberry acreage this year to 1,100 acres, with Moneta district contributing about 800 and San Gabriel district about 300. The rise is paired with cheaper berries due to favorable canning supplies, while last year’s carry-over may limit this season’s production. S. J. Otsu of the Southern California Berry Growers’ Association foresees 30 to 40 percent cheaper berries and increased home canning. G G Hill Circulating South for Fruit and Produce

Atlanta April 1 G G Hill who claims to head American Fruit and Produce Company is sending circulars through the South to poultry butter shippers. Inquiries arise about his reliability as circulars were issued last week on blank paper. Address 2865 Edgeware Street. He previously served as Postal Telegraph operator at Birmingham and was discharged. Shipowners have filed frequent complaints about his conduct.

Normal Berry Crop In Lois Lana And States Further North

Reports from Chicago say the strawberry acreage in Illinois Indiana Michigan and Wisconsin is not heavy. Shipments are mainly express lots with some carrots. berry industry not as developed as Tennessee Kentucky Arkansas Missouri or southern states. Southern Illinois and Indiana grow some berries commercially and Michigan Wisconsin districts produce a good many berries. Outlook for the season is about a normal crop.

Plant ripening dates for berries and vegetables
