Franchises of street railways face renewal with no gains
A skeptical note runs through Chicago transit history as streetcar franchises for fifty three lines near expiry in 1903 and 1908. The list detail maps routes on the North and West sides with dates and conditions under the 1865 act. No concessions or fare reductions are promised, critics say the tunnels will be lowered but passenger service won t improve.
