Chicago Evening Debates Municipal Telephones and Rates

A Chicago editorial argues for municipal ownership of phones and criticizes the Telephone Trust. It notes Alderman Bauler's push for penny phones, threats of voter referendums, and proposed city control of automatic service with reduced rates. It highlights Armour’s potential role and reports on council actions, ordinances, and long-range plans for cheap, universal service.

North Side Redistricting Plan Agreed By Subcommittee

The North Side sub committee of the Council Committee on Redistricting has approved a tentative plan for re districting the six north wards. The plan, aimed at ending disputes between Aldermen Reinberg and Bauler and Clettenberg, sets ward boundaries from Wells Street to Division and Sedgwick to North Avenue, with populations around 63,695 for Ward 21 and detailed path along Center Street and nearby streets. The group adjourned to reconvene September 5 to finalize the proposal.
