The Barkentine Tam O Shanter arrived in San Francisco from Seattle with the Marmion's crew aboard. Marmion sprang a leak in a gale on the night of the 7th and foundered off Cape Flattery after leaving Departure Bay on the 4th. Marmion built in New York in 1846.

The tug Seymour from Ogdensburg led a convoy of four tugs three dredges and eight scows from Cape Vincent toward Buffalo. A gale on Lake Ontario at night sank three tugs and most small craft. one tug was saved and the Seymour reached Sackett's Harbor.
