Riverhead L I Sept 29 The open road derby set an American auto record with a 22 mile sand course sweepstakes. Mechanician James Bates died and Driver Lytle injured when an Apperaon car skidded and overturned at 66 miles per hour. Louis Chevrolet won the race averaging 70 mph over 113 miles. Cars under 1260 dollars averaged faster than a mile per minute.

Three Women Injured In Livery Horse Accident At Fort Russell

A livery horse bolted at Fort Russell yesterday afternoon striking a telephone pole. Miss Dollie Davis suffered fractures to both legs. Miss Pearl Pickering endured fractures of the left leg and left arm plus bruises. Mrs. Mariila Davis had injuries with bed confinement. The three were taken to the military hospital for emergency care before being returned home.

President Taft Visits Seattle Exposition Tonight

Bank Robbery At Glenwood Springs Claims Ten Thousand

Glenwood Springs Colorado police report two unidentified men robbed Citizens National Bank this afternoon. They bound vice president B E Deach and mayor T H Davis, taking about 10000 dollars in cash. The robbers fled into wooded hills south of Loch Posey pursued by officers. several shots were fired but no one was hit. Authorities believe the pair mounted horses and escaped toward the hills with the loot.
