A daytime air raid on southeastern England, with Zeppelins and hostile planes, killed six and wounded twenty as fires and explosions lit the coast. The attack lasted about forty five minutes, with bombs dropped near London and along the Thames vicinity.
Will Hoover testified in central Oklahoma that a planned rebellion backed by the I. W. W. and forty allied groups including the Working Class union sought to ignite small towns July 27. The W C U would seize towns and burn bridges while the I. W. W. targeted larger elites, with plans to torch cities and disrupt telegraph lines.
Backers of the Walsh oil leasing bill in the senate decide not to bring the measure this session. The bill would open Wyoming oil lands under government control to entry and production, but passage in the house was deemed unlikely, delaying any opening of lands until December.
The House voted 181 to 107 to create a committee on women's suffrage. The new committee will take over suffrage bills from the judiciary committee, with Baker of California or Taylor of Colorado likely as chairman. Jeannette Rankin was suggested but unlikely due to party. The move guarantees a suffrage fight next session.
