Deserter Lieutenant Chant Held in New York Forgery Case
Second Lieutenant Hearle M. Ghant, of the Eleventh Infantry, who deserted near Pole Mountain, was arrested in the Hotel Astor lobby in New York and charged with forging the name of Captain W. P. Kitts for a large sum. Ghant, known as a high flyer, faced creditors and desertion after failing to meet debts. His home is Chicago.

Up to midnight two squadrons of the Ninth Cavalry had left for the border. The third section departed at two this morning, with the fourth at five and the fifth to follow this evening to permit the return of K troop from Loveland and pickup of strays. The move to Arizona began yesterday afternoon when Captain G. P. White led the first squadron to Douglas, where headquarters will be set.

King of Newsies Completes 2000 Mile Hike to Cheyenne
