Labor Day Addresses Emphasize Education for All

At Minnehaha Park Cheyenne labor leaders and guests preached that education is the path to emancipation for workers. Gov Kendrick and Mayor La Fontaine spoke on eight hour laws, with Maude Younger and James Brewster highlighted as speakers. Mildred Burke Killed In Auto Wreck Sunday

Misa Mildred Burke age 18 daughter of Edward W Burke of 609 Mast Twenty-first street was killed when a Ford car wrecked on the Lincoln highway near Red Buttes. Ruth Cook and Charles E Wright were injured. Francis Murphy aided by Wright stopped arterial bleeding until help arrived. Coroner's jury found Burke died of injuries from the accident and blamed loss of control by Wright. verdict signed by local businessmen. jury chair Harry Hust noted sand on road not a cause.

Snook Return to County Jail In Ballot Defacing Case

Arthur Snook, former county clerk’s employee, returned to Lincoln after fleeing Cheyenne and jailed to await arraignment on defacing ballots in the Republican primary. He accuses Orrin Babbitt of double crossing him and arranging the crime to delay confession. Prosecutor Thompson cites Snook’s corroborating details and plans to try the case at the October term.

Civilian and Soldier Held in Theft of State Guard Gun

W. D. Warren, a carpenter at Camp Kendrick, and Private D. J. Garther were arrested after allegedly using a taxi to steal a state guard gun and ammo. They tried to sell it at a Fifteenth Street junk shop, then abandoned ammo in another shop. Garther was identified by a sergeant and arrested following an alert from higher command. Heffner, deserting Saturday night, was injured by a train near Archer and is hospitalized with severe injuries.

Rioting Marks El Paso Streetcar Strike

Rioting erupted in El Paso after a labor day parade as streetcar strikebreakers faced attacks. Body of Mrs Millerman to be brought back

The body of the late Mrs. M. J. Millerman wife of James M. Millerman who died last Friday in Manchester Tennessee will be brought to Cheyenne Wednesday by the bereaved husband and his daughter Miss Emma Millerman. The deceased was 25 years old. She was born in Wisconsin and had lived in Cheyenne about twenty years. Besides her husband she leaves three daughters Mrs. Rose Fitamoriia Mrs. Ruth Viner and Miss Emma Millerman all of Cheyenne.
