Firemen Overcome by Smoke at Large City Fire

Fire engulfed Mace Percy Smith Furniture Store at Eddy and Seventeenth with losses estimated between 20 000 and 25 000 including stock and building. Assistant Chief Cahill and Fireman Brannigan were overcome in the basement while others escaped. two men narrowly avoided serious harm as dust and smoke filled the area. Damages also hit City Hall and logs in the store were partially covered by insurance valued at 6 000.
