Cardigan Wales Oct 16 All hope of rescuing more of the 931 miners entombed by yesterday's explosion at the Universal Colliery has faded. A false report of 29 survivors was contradicted as 49 bodies were recovered and fire continues to rage with no signs of abating. Engineers shift focus to subduing the blaze rather than ongoing rescue attempts.
Two heated debates at the Denver Deadwood Highway association meeting in Cheyenne centered on official route choice. Crawford route advocates argued hotels and supply stations justify longer distance, winning 26 to 4 for the Crawford line serving several towns. Delegates then endorsed only the Greeley Fort Collins segment as part of the Denver Deadwood path, followed by a hospitality banquet hosted by Mr Hyndes celebrating western ties.
A fire today destroyed a facility causing an estimated loss of about 100,000 dollars. Fire crews worked to control the flames and prevent spread to nearby structures. Local officials began damage assessments and investigations into the cause.

James C. Lafrance was found guilty in the United States circuit court of defrauding Modern Woodmen of America of 3000 by burying a corpse on the Clackamas river bank in June 1912 and later collecting insurance through false claims the body was his. His wife, jointly indicted, collected policies totaling 12000. Lafrance resurfaced alive more than six months after he was supposed dead.
In Pocatello Idaho on October 15 cement contractor Pen P Cantrell shot his wife on the main street and then killed himself. He died instantly while his wife survived. The chief of police, who witnessed the shooting, was about to arrest Cantrell when the fatal shot was fired.
Asa Anderson seeks to restrain the city from banning the tango at his dancing school. He and a young woman perform a tango in Judge Witken's court room as part of the injunction case. Judge Vickey to rule later on the legality of tango dancing here.
New York Oct 16 Former Senator Nelson W Aldrich of Rhode Island denounces the Wageon administration currency bill as unsound revolutionary and a partisan assault on Democratic principles. He says passage would fulfill Bryan's decade long campaign and cites Wilson and Cleveland to argue against government notes and greenback ideas.
