Roosevelt remains in serious condition after the Milwaukee shooting by John Schrank. Doctors say no probing or bullet removal will occur and absolute quiet is required as he rests, reads telegrams, and plans possible outings with family while closely watched for infection.
John Schrank Roosevelt assailant will not be tried until after the November 6 election. States Attorney Zabel says trial will await Roosevelt's injuries results and proceed as typical. Chemical tests will determine if the bullets were poisoned.
Governor Wilson announced he would cancel speaking engagements except for Thursday and Friday this week until Roosevelt can actively participate. He plans to speak in Delaware West Virginia and Pennsylvania this week and wrap up in Pittsburgh Friday night. Taft comments on Roosevelt shooting call the act a maniac’s horror. La Follette telegraph expresses regret over the peril to Roosevelt and wishes a speedy recovery.
Ten heirs of the Swope estate valued at 1 125 000 will meet this week or next in the Commerce building offices.
