A 17 year old girl, Lillian Hoffman, lived as a boy for three years in Cleveland working at a livery stable and delivering goods. She wore boys clothes to escape home life, was arrested while employed by BD Martin on Detroit Avenue, confessed to police, and her stepfather supplied girls clothing. The motive cited was a love for horses.
Seventeen men were killed and ten injured in a collision between a Santa Fe construction train and a freight on the Atchison branch near Topeka at noon. The wreck happened as the work train backed toward the city for dinner. Officials suspect orders were disregarded.

At Cooper Union a slender woman in white, Maude Malone, head of Harlem Woman's Suffrage Union, interrupted O T Gannard's opening mayoral remarks asking if he supports votes for women. Gannard replied in a later interview for a forthcoming Sunday paper, then resumed his speech amid applause and some chaos.
