Double Tragedy Shrouded by Secret Pact and Fatal Shots

A wife Averil Phillips, 19, and husband George Phillips, 23, were found dead in a Union Pacific employee’s home at 1919 Tronse street in a bedroom. Neighbors heard two shots Friday night and a scream. A prior pact to end their lives months earlier is suspected but details remain murky. Mrs. Phillips worked as a waitress and had reportedly warned her husband to stay away from others. The couple’s deaths were discovered by L. F. Price after Mrs. Benson reported unusual quiet. The investigation continues as officials review a possible self-inflicted shooting.
