Washington November 14. Secretary of Labor Wilson declared the miners demand for a 30 hour week and a 60 percent wage rise impossible as the conference opened to resolve the nationwide coal strike. Operators and miners agreed on little as talks began.
Joeph Dinwoody, oldest in the U S Soldiers Home near Washington, recalls service in the Mexican and Civil Wars and remains vigorous. The article notes his enjoyment of life and outlines three wage‑aid proposals proposed by the secretary to ease relations and set bargaining steps for district committees, concurrent sessions, and central field agreements.

Captain Riot W. Springs earned the title ace for his service with the British flying corps. The Prince of Wales decorated Springs during a brief visit to Washington. Other notes mention his unit assignments and the Lancaster squadron.
Friends announce the wedding of Percy Smith, proprietor of Morey Smith Mercantile, to Hazel Culmore, a local graduate, in Greeley on Friday November 7. Smith is a planer, merchant, and furniture dealer in town.
