Harding Wins First Tarpon On Texas Fishing Trip

President-Elect Harding landed his first tarpon off Point Isabel Texas measuring 4 feet 5 inches. Mrs Harding hooked a tarpon nearly six feet but declined to land it. Senator Hale assisted and landed the larger fish after a long struggle while Harding spent the day tarpon fishing three miles offshore.

Spectacular tug rescue of burning freighter El Mundo

A 10 000 ton Morgan Line freighter El Mundo burned and laid siege by flames on the Hudson near Elme island. Tugs and fire boats dragged the ship from danger as spectators watched crews, eight deck hands badly burned, one possibly fatally. All crew accounted for, vessel arrived from Galveston with general cargo.

In UAWA Illinois on November 10 a bank teller Francis Carey was trapped inside a National City Bank vault after robbers escaped with 950000. Electric blowers and dynamite failed to free him and a Joliet Penitentiary crew was sought to blast the vault. Warden said only a few old fashioned safe crackers could handle a modern vault.
