Curtiss Sets New York to Chicago Biplane Flight Record

Glenn H Curtiss completed a 960 mile New York to Chicago flight in a biplane, starting May 30 from Albany and landing at Governor's Island after stops at Poughkeepsie and Inwood. He averaged 54.06 mph with bursts near 60 mph, winning a $10,000 prize from the New York World. Hamilton sponsors a potential $25,000 prize for eight from New York to Chicago.

Electric streetcar crash injures dozens near Oakland

A head on collision of two California Electric Railway street cars nine miles from Oakland killed one motorman and injured about fifty passengers. Amputations were required for several, including the motorman C. A. Chitatepgen whose legs were severed. A wedding party aboard one car remained unharmed.
