President Wilson rejected the Republican peace resolution saying a peace with Germany would stain the United States' gallantry and honor. He argued the Versailles Treaty covers essential wartime aims omitted by the resolution and that a separate peace would undermine U S rights and civilization.
Dr. Nicholas Murray Butler will not accept the vice presidential nomination if offered. Campaign manager Judge Davies says Butler regards the office as worthy but that he would not resign his long held public position for the vice presidency.

Washington May 27 The Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted 11 to 4 to report a resolution denying Congress the power to grant the president a United States mandate over Armenia. Republican support was solid with one Democrat, Senator Shield, opposing. four other Democrats opposed on principle or other grounds.
The Senate voted to abolish 42 standing committees and cut the size of all remaining ones, taking effect next Congress. The slate reduces committees from 74 to 32, trimming chairmanships and patronage. Senator Knox praised removing rarely meeting panels, while Senator Underwood supported the reform.
Chicago May 27 The Republican platform will not include any wet or dry plank or modifications to the bone dry issue. Samuel A Perkins says party policy leaders settled the question as the convention nears. Senator Hiram Johnson, Concord NC, said he would not bolt the party if not chosen as nominee.
In Atlanta federal penitentiary Eugene V Debs serving a ten year term for espionage will be formally notified Saturday morning that the Socialist party has nominated him for president. A notification committee traveling from New York will meet with the prisoner in a small room under guard with visitor time extended for this business. The warden indicated Debs would likely receive the committee in prison garb and that the notification is treated as important party business.
The Chamber of Commerce hosts a 7 30 dinner at the Plains hotel for Union Pacific executives led by Carl Gray and E H Calvin with speakers including William Jeffers and Governor Garey. T. Blake Kennedy acts as toastmaster as Cheyenne plans a closer link with the railroad’s leadership.
The general assembly of the Presbyterian Church of the United States voted unanimously to end its relations with the Inter-Church World Movement in Philadelphia on May 27. Also reported is the death of Mrs. Richard Proctor in Los Angeles earlier, longtime Cheyenne resident and wife of former Laramie county undersheriff Richard Proctor. Sheriff EB Smalley was notified by telegram.
Conferees defeat federalization of the National Guard in a military reorganization bill. The measure sets a peacetime regular army of 297,000, maintains the guard, and creates an enlisted reserve corps with 15 days training yearly. It also updates military ranks for army nurses and shifts war procurement duties to an under secretary replaced by the assistant secretary. A permanent war council is created to handle military and munitions issues.
In Washington on May 27 advocates for the soldier relief measure threatened to block all business until the bill is considered. Rep Mason and Rep Murphy led the push, while Rep Fordmey said passage could come Saturday or next week as the rules committee moved to suspend rules for six days to enable debate. El Paso reports the Alvarado Mining and Milling company halted operations May 22 after refusing to pay a $50,000 protecting tax to Francisco Villa. D G Hawkins, VP in charge, announced the action today.
