Huerta Appointed Mex ican Mediation Delegates At Falls

Three Mexican peace conference delegates appointed by General Huerta visited Washington and New York for days before traveling to Clifton Hotel Niagara Falls Canada. They refused interviews to reporters and planned to meet Supreme Court Justice Lawar and Mr Lehman at Clifton. No one could predict the conference length or outcome.

Records broken as state lands fetch varied bids on courthouse steps

Deputy state land commissioner Leslie A. Miller sold 5 729 acres of state and school land yesterday. Bids surprised observers with strong activity. George E. Prosser bought 120 acres for 20 dollars, the Wilkinson estate 640 acres at 20.76 per acre, Iowa Land and Live Stock 2 400 acres at 12 dollars, Wyoming Hereford Association 3 200 acres at 10 dollars, and Warren Live Stock 500 acres at 10 dollars. Total figures show 4 600 acres at 10 dollars, 640 acres at 20.75, 2 400 acres at 12, and 6 729 acres overall.

Senate Passes Agricultural Appropriation Bill

The Senate tonight passed the agricultural appropriation bill reported from committee nearly a month ago. It carries 719 million dollars, a bit more than the House version. The measure will proceed to conference at once.

Hudson Wis May 23 Two knockouts highlighted the Hudson ring card. Tommy Gibbons of St Paul defeated Buck Crouse of Pittsburgh in four rounds, and Ad Palzer returned to action with a knockout of Fred Palton of Minneapolis in the fourth.

Five Ordway Players Killed In Train Crash Near Cheraw

In Cheraw Octio May 25 two Ordway baseball team members died and three were badly hurt when their car was struck by an Atchison train at a crossing in a deep cut. The deceased were Reuben H. Zinn 26 and Tony Peters 27. the injured included Billy Wanstead 23, chauffeur, Charles Garrett 21, and Oscar Goetz 18.

Mines to reopen in southern Colorado Monday

Colonel James Lockett in command of federal forces says the Forbes mine will be permitted to reopen. George F. Peast, general manager of Rocky Mountain Fuel, announced plans to resume mine operations on Monday. The Porches mine was attacked April 29, leaving ten dead.

Perjury trial set for Monday in U S District Court

The Hall perjury case will be called Monday at 10 in the U S district court. Judge Mullen has been appointed special prosecutor. Mullen previously served as assistant U S attorney during the Montgomery white slavery trial and conviction.

Rains Put End to the Fires in Washington

Rain fell across western Washington today ending a string of forest fires that had threatened heavy damage. In Seattle on May 23 crews reported significant reductions in fire activity as weather improved and winds diminished.

Six conference records set in Rocky Mountains meet

Six new conference records were established in the Rocky Mountains International Athletic Conference annual track meet in Denver. The University of Colorado won 467 42 points, Denver University 241 4, Utah 207 12, Colorado College 2414, Colorado Agricultural 11, Utah Agricultural 1, Colorado Mines failed to score.

Whitcomb Lands Case Ends in Jury Verdict for Defendant

The U S district court jury returned a verdict for the defendant in the case involving R J Tateva and W Whitcomb. Memorial building to McKinley planned for Niles Ohio

Trustees of the Niles Birthplace Memorials voted yesterday to erect a $200,000 Memorial Building to perpetuate the memory of the late President William McKinley at his birthplace in Niles Ohio. Ambrose Milburn and others attended the meeting.

Woman faint as body clamped to pilot on fast mail

Passengers in Chicago at LaSalle Street station watched a Lake Shore & Michigan Southern fast mail arrive with a man’s body jammed on the locomotive pilot. A notebook named Nicholas Geisen of Westville Indiana. Scraps of harness and buggy piece showed he was struck crossing the tracks. In Albuquerque an unidentified man, likely a hobo, was killed when Santa Fe No 810 derailed near La Joya. four cars went off the rails and spreading rails are blamed.

Three Gonvigts Shot in Break at Idaho Prison

Boise May 24 Three prisoners were shot by guards at the Idaho State penitentiary during an escape attempt. One man identified as A G Bercup was shot. The escape was timed while many guards were at lunch as prisoners used a bench to climb the wall.

Plea Frees Two Men in Pueblo Robbery Case

Pueblo Colorado May 23 Following an impassioned plea by B E B Turner the jury found Turner and Charles Kelley not guilty in district court on robbery charges. Turner spoke to the jury with tears as he argued for liberty for himself and his friend. The jury acquitted the pair after about an hour of deliberation.

Queen Mary orders raid on suffragette HQ in London
