Seng Hanged for Murder in Rawlins Wyoming

Special to the Leader: Joseph Seng was hanged at 2:45 a.m. for killing William Lloyd of Evanston. Ten witnesses attended as Warden Alston and Father Long aided the condemned man, and medical examiners reported death at 2:55 with the neck unbroken.

Seng Spends Last Day In Solitude Before Execution

Special to The Leader. Rawlins Wyoming May 23 Joseph Leng condemned to death for murdering William Lloyd at Evanston in August 1910 spent his last day in solitude. Father Long his spiritual adviser remained with him from 4 to 6 pm sending a clemency petition to Governor Carey. Leng said he did not get a fair trial and that his witnesses were not admitted. J P Julien Cheyenne prepared the scaffold. Leng praised his treatment and faced death with courage.

Prisoner Seeks Immediate Execution as Governor Delays

The inmate has long believed Governor Carey will grant a respite and alay his sentence. In a final talk with Warden Leng the prisoner thanked prison staff for good treatment and requested execution at daybreak if no reprieve is granted, but Warden Allen said the hour could not be changed.

Seng executes Loyd in cold blood over discharge

Joseph Seng killed William Lloyd with three shots from behind in Evanston after being discharged from Union Pacific watch duties. Lloyd and Leng served as watchmen. Seng sought revenge, fired when Lloyd walked with his wife, then delivered a final shot to the back of Lloyd’s neck. Governor Carey refused clemency despite ministerial appeals.
