Father Sues City for Damages Over Child Drowning

Chester L. Fowler administrator of Florence Winifred Fowler seeks $2,000 in district court against the City of Cheyenne for gross negligence after the baby drowned in a water filled street excavation on East Nineteenth Street October 3, 1948. The suit claims a deep, dangerous hole was left unguarded and unprotected, with leakage of water creating a hazard. Fowler had filed a claim for $2,560 with city officials, which was denied.

Mechanic admits theft of Howell car from garage

The sheriff's office reported that F Jack Robinson, a former local garage employee, confessed stealing Deputy U S Attorney Howell's car from a garage. The car was located in Salina Kansas after Howell left for Salina to retrieve it. Robinson was arrested and jailed, admitting he took the car, drove it to Salina, then sold it before returning to Cheyenne.

Ira Bidwell Dies After Airplane Fall in Oklahoma

Ira M. Bidwell, longtime manager of the Cheyenne Indians and a beloved Cheyenne sports figure, died in a Cherokee hospital from injuries after a Thursday airplane fall at Enid Oklahoma. His companion in the crash was killed instantly. Bidwell had recently been discharged from the army aviation branch where he held a lieutenant's commission. News of his death was to be met with regret by numerous friends.

Salvation Army Opens Soldier Hostel on West Seventeenth
