Crowds Pack Westminster Hall for King Edward VII Funeral

London May 18. Over one hundred thousand watchers filed in double file past the catafalque bearing King Edward VII’s coffin in Westminster Hall. Eminent guests from Europe and beyond entered Victoria station as the funeral plans were announced. President Roosevelt, envoy from the United States, will ride in the eight carriage at the service. The vigil lasted through a rainy night with 50 000 to 60 000 viewing by nightfall and many thousands more in the street. The crowd was cosmopolitan with no class distinctions as mourners from many lands paid tribute. Roosevelt met with officials and left for Friday’s funeral service in a diplomatic role.

Dynamite Explosion Harms Cuban Rural Guards Barracks
