Six Still Loyal to General Jacob Coxey in Maryland

Frederick Md May 16 six privates remain loyal as Gen Jacob Coxey arrives leading his march on Washington. The general Mrs Coxey and their daughter head the cavalcade with their son on a donkey and a bugler and drummer on foot. Coxey plans to press on to Washington despite desertions.

Statue of Commodore Barry Unveiled in Franklin Park

In Franklin Park Washington a bronze statue of Commodore John Barry was unveiled before thousands including Cabinet members senators and press figures with President Wilson as the keynote speaker. Secretary Daniels presided and Wilson spoke on patriotism as a principle. The crowd stood for the Star Spangled Banner as wreaths were placed around the statue.

Chicago May 16 All defendants in the structural Iron workers dynamite conspiracy now on bonds or with convictions affirmed face surrender to Leavenworth or the local penitentiary in three weeks. The court considers Olaf Tveiltmoe Richard H Houlihan and William Bernhardt for new trials while the government asks for a rehearing.

Motordrome at Luna Park Closed After Injuries

In Cleveland on May 16 an accident in Luna Park’s motordrome left five injured, three racers and two spectators, with officials announcing permanent closure of the facility. A machine struck a motorcycle causing the injuries. all victims were severely hurt.

President Wilson warns Colorado on strike control

President Wilson warns Governor Ammons that Colorado must be ready to maintain peace in strike districts without federal aid. Troops stay only until the state resumes sovereignty. Water borne freight will start passing through the canal on Monday with five barges of miscellaneous cargo towed from Balboa to Cristobal. The exact passage time could not be confirmed by Governor Govthals tonight.

A May 6 withdrawal order blocks entry and sales of thousands of acres in the Little Buffalo basin and Grass Creek, halting drilling at Basin amid a rush to develop rich anti-clines. Oil men fear losses, hope for later leasing or development opportunities. Grass Creek and Little Buffalo lie about 560 and 70 miles south of Basin.

Two Boys Die in Duel Over a Young Divorc ee

In Hyden Kentucky a pistol duel ended with the deaths of 18 year old Joe Hensley and 17 year old Hubbard Miniard. Both youths were son and nephew of local families and had been infatuated with Mrs Daley Adama a divorced young woman who also came under fire. A stray bullet wounded her. The duel occurred near Hyden early today.
