Passaic N J May 9 President Taft spoke at a Passaic board of trade banquet on a broad administration program. He urged swift passage of a bill to certify waterpower sites to states and argued for public land withdrawals. He noted bills on phosphate lands and urged action on railway and postal measures while defending court of commerce provisions.

Hyde Goes On Stand Denies Crimes In Swope Case

Kansas City May 10 Dr B Clark Hyde and wife testified denying nurses accounts and any poisoning scheme in the Swope home. Hyde said he did not kill or mistreat patients while defending his treatment of James Hunton Col Thomas Swope and Christian Swope. He claimed no knowledge of Mrs Hyde receiving Swope’s residue and denied poisoning with drugs or cyanide. Mrs Hyde corroborated by denying witnesses’ testimony and said Thomas Swope Jr could not have been on the street when he claimed to see capsules tossed away.

Cheyenne Prepares for Barney Oldfield Speed Trials

Barney Oldfield arrives in Cheyenne on No 4 with a fleet of high powered cars, including the 200 horsepower Beng and the clock record holder Anox. An automobile parade will follow upon arrival in Cheyenne with a five minute badge entry system and transit permits. The Cheyenne Motor Club and Ninth Cavalry will manage crowd control while a full military band provides entertainment. Power Closes Oil Contracts for 2000 Barrels Daily

In Lander Wyoming on May 9 Col T B Power, manager of the Dallas oil works, reports contracts with eastern buyers including Omaha packing concerns and with Wyoming & Northwestern and Chicago & Northwestern railroads for 2000 barrels of fuel oil daily. Wells near the central pumping plant will supply about 1600 barrels daily with five drilling rigs being erected to add 500 more. A recently completed well produced around 60 barrels daily with a brief surge above that level.
