Fire in a downtown Columbus business and apartment structure at midnight traps many people. Scores of women jumped from upper windows and were rushed to hospitals with serious injuries. One death reported. estimated 20 or 80 trapped, including a dozen children tossed from windows.
Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Parker, quartermaster of the Third Wyoming National Guard, returned from abroad landing in Newport News April 17. He traveled with Mrs. Parker to their home at Cady, with plans to report to Fort Russell on leave. Parker served nine months with the 5th Division in France, participating in the St Mihiel and Argonne offensives, and noted for gallantry alongside Missouri and Kansas troops. He met Colonel Burke H. Sinclair in Paris and is reported in excellent health and high regard in the army.
The operetta O Hara San directed by Miss Florence Planningan at a local theater raised 275 dollars for Cheyenne public schools. Proceeds go to the school piano fund.
Frank C. Hunter, formerly director of car movements on the Wyoming division, is appointed assistant director of safety for Union Pacific system. His duties extend to all points served by the lines of the Union Pacific. He was in Cheyenne yesterday and left for Laramie in the afternoon.
Ensign Hugh J. Adams of Pittsburgh and Chief Machinist’s Mate Harold Gorey of Scranton pa were instantly killed when their plane dived into a hydrogen gas tank at the Rockaway Beach oval stallion today. The Associated Press reports the accident occurred during a training flight with the machine engaging a big hydrogen gas tank.
Paris report details Gottleib von Jagow former German foreign minister asserting in a new book that the imaginary French invasion of German soil provoked the declaration of war on France. He says staff relayed the alleged invasions to the government without verification. The Tageblatt comments on his account of an interview with the Austrian ambassador about Serbia.

A cage carrying ten miners fell 4100 feet at Maple Hill shaft of the Heating Company in Pottsville moments ago. One miner is dead and several are seriously injured with two feared dead, as rescue teams work to reach the trapped men.

Two masked men robbed a bank in Washougal Washington state taking about $7000 in coins and silver. Police searched for the suspects with nothing yet found. The holdup occurred today at the Creek Bank branch.
Secretary Baker said the one millionth American Expeditionary Force soldier will begin homeward embarkation next week aboard the George Washington. He noted troop demobilization is rapid, with 300,000 a month by June, and praised the Third Army as the best equipped in the world.

Promoter Tex Rickard announced the Willard versus Dempsey heavyweight championship will be staged in Toledo Ohio on Friday afternoon July 4. The Post Personnel defeated Company 1 Twenty-first Infantry 49 to 4 in the season opener at Fort Muswell. Captain Jones, a Cin cinnati veteran, pitched for the infantry team but allowed six hits and struck out nine. Agulo of the Post Personnel fanned nine in seven innings, allowing three hits.
Four youths in army uniforms robbed the Aus Savings Bank in Chicago today escaping with 8848 dollars. They took about 4000 in cash and no other valuables, triggering a bank alarm and police pursuit.
The Mountain division of the American Red Cross, covering Wyoming Colorado and New Mexico, led the nation in wartime output. In 18 months from July 1 1917 to December 31 1918 it produced 148 254 8468 articles with a value of 84 441 997. The division averaged 44.0 articles per 100 population, second only to the Atlantic division in monthly output. The national average value was 24.7 cents per article and 5 54 per 100 population. The Mountain division, though smallest, exceeded most others in article value.
A hospital train bearing 164 wounded men from France passed through Cheyenne at 3 40 yesterday morning. Cream and other delicacies were delivered to the train by the local crew of Ned Crdig. Of the 404 patients aboard the special, all except four were able to walk.
