Great Western Sugar plans cooperative road work with Big Horn and Park counties. W. P. Hogarty, district manager, travels from Lovell to Basin and Manderson with County Chairman T. W. Spratt to assess needed improvements and ensure best possible returns.
Greybull May 1. Edgar and Naomi Shoemaker children of Mr and Mrs Ed Shoemaker narrowly escaped death Monday evening when the automobile carrying them struck. The girl was thrown clear and suffered cuts from a broken windshield. both children escaped with minor injuries as the car was wrecked.
In Sheridan on May 1 the Acme Coal company plans to convert over a hundred acres in Tongue River valley to food crops. A. K. Craig leads a community garden project with school children and teachers. adults receive plowed ground and seeds. Prizes, sales to the company, or to others are allowed. The company irrigates with a portable pump. plans include notable acreage for potatoes and beans.
Unsettled weather expected Wednesday with a chance of snow or rain and cooler temperatures. A northwest storm moving from Utah may bring stormy conditions across Wyoming, with heavy snow in Yellowstone Park and widespread rain in the northwest region.
Five Casper men led by J. B. Wilson depart for Riverton to oversee the Pilot Butte company's first well. The crew moves a nearly new standard rig from four miles away onto the lease in township N range 3 with Mr. Wilson in charge.
Henry Keats, born September 17, 1886 in Friedenfelt Russia, filed his declaration of intention to become a U S citizen in Laramie on May 1. He came to the United States on May 24, 1908 and resides with his family at 659 North Sixth Street.
In Laramie on May 1 the university coach Corbett and W. H. Holliday Company official Mr Shakespeare were ordered to report to the officers training camp in San Francisco around May 11 to complete army commission examinations. Corbett aims for a major's commission.
Clarence Brimmer, who took the reserve officer exam in Laramie a few weeks ago, learned this week he passed and will receive an early appointment date, as reported by the Rawlins Journal. Cody Man Held for Arson Attempt. Deputy Sheriff Barber brought Leonard Baldwin from Meeteetee to Cody, where Baldwin is accused of arson related to a recent incident on West Ave, with details still unfolding.
May 1 in Laramie a telegram from Leslie Jacobs Harvard senior says he has joined the naval flying corps as quartermaster sergeant first class. Gordon Balch is in the same branch and expects rapid advancement. He plans to start in about two weeks and graduate before leaving college. Mrs Jacobs leaves Oakland for Los Angeles to visit before returning home.
A man who escaped from the city jail Saturday was brought back this morning. He faced a police judge who ordered a fine and costs totaling five dollars after a brief hearing. The defendant had no other charges listed against him.
In Roook Springs Montana trade reports record wool prices. Charles B Ogden banker sold 76000 pounds at 5 1 2 cents. Earlier European War era wool topped 7 8 cents, while Cisco Utah light wool fetched 52½ cents a pound, possibly Utah’s record. Gambling case closes with Jerry Green pleading guilty. fined $300, serving time in county jail.
