Dies Just as He Finishes Speech at Newcastle City Hall

John Berry of Newcastle died of an apoplexy after concluding a speech in city hall. A Wyoming pioneer and civil engineer, Berry helped develop the state through the Chicago and Northwestern railroad work begun in the 1870s. He gained notoriety in 1893 by a cross country horseback ride from Chadron Nebraska to Chicago. He is survived by his widow and a daughter.

Cheyenne High School Wins Debate Over Sheridan Team

Cheyenne High School defeated Sheridan 2 to 1 in a state interscholastic debate. Sheridan impressed the audience, while Cheyenne presenters argued that federal government ownership of railroads would yield efficiency and safety, with strong performances from Ralph Fowler and Opal D Mont replacement. The event featured Mr Schweiring and Mr Hawkes observing, songs by Mre Wilcox, and a lively gymnasium crowd.
