Washington March 27 The German government may disavow any torpedo attack on the British steamer Sussex and punish the submarine commander if found responsible. The United States seeks evidence of which submarines fired on the Sussex or the Englishman with Americans aboard. The president calls the situation grave while awaiting further facts.

Cheyenne Industrial Club Luncheon Focuses on Road to Growth

About forty Cheyenne business leaders attended the Industrial Club luncheon led by T. Blake Kennedy. Former Governor Carey urged active work including creating manufacturing and railroad committees and planning a reception for railroad magnates. Pet mouse saves family as fire hits Minneapolis home

A pet white mouse woke a mother in Minneapolis as flames engulfed the home of Thamas Dromecks. The rodent crawled across the baby's face and cried, waking the mother to alert others and save lives in the early morning blaze.

Two Detroit Prisoners Escape From Sleeper Near Centerville

Centerville Iowa March 87 police and sheriff forces search between Centerville and Seymour for two Detroit prisoners E H West and John Gelser both convicted of immigration law violations who escaped from a United States deputy while in a sleeping car with leg irons and handcuffs. The marshals believe they left the train at Numa twelve miles west of Centerville as authorities race to recapture them.

Literacy test kept in immigration bill to pass House

Washington dispatch says the immigration bill remains intact with the literacy test provision. The committee of the whole approved a clause barring aliens over 16 who cannot read English or another language, pending final House action likely tomorrow.

Visitors barred from Cheyenne's new filtration plant for about a week as Pittsburg Filter Manufacturing completes final tests and transfers ownership to the city. The halt stems from contractors overwhelmed by levers and mechanical parts during operations. Mrs. Mary H. Kern of Snyder Street died after a short illness ending in cerebral hemorrhage.
