Far battles unfold as General Villa resumes attacks on Torreon after repulse at Gomez Palacio. Dispatch from the battlefield says Villa’s move threatens the federal base, with U.S. officials watching the Mexican campaign closely.
Sioux City Iowa reports two firemen killed and three injured when a wall collapsed during a blaze that damaged the Anderson Furniture building and spread to the Frank hotel and adjacent Moore Clothing and Central Bank structures. Nets saved several occupants as flames drove them to windows and stairways in a rapid, deadly early morning fire. Estimated property loss ranges from 300000 to 400000 dollars. InEstherville Iowa separate early morning fire caused 136000 in damage from a lantern explosion and is reported under control.

President Wilson told visiting congressmen that toll exemption must be repealed to avert an international crisis and protect treaty and trade negotiations.
