They murder a chauffeur and two guards, rob the Chantilly branch of Societe Generale, and vanish in a high powered car. Police report baffling disguises and rapid escapes, with ongoing manhunts and warnings broadcast citywide.
London reports the nation endures a coal strike with nearly three million idle and many dependent on charity. A joint miners and mine owners conference was not held, adjourned to tomorrow, and a general halt of passenger trains across the United Kingdom looms if no settlement is reached by week’s end.
On the eve of the Chicago convention primaries Roosevelt toured Manhattan and the Bronx tonight addressing six meetings. He skipped the Silk Stocking district and focused on the East Side where he hopes for his strongest support.

Major Herman W. Glafcke longtime Wyoming resident dies at his home after weeks of illness pneumonia declared cause. Born in Hamburg June 1840 he came to the United States 1857 settling in Conway later moving to Wyoming in 1870 he served as secretary and acting governor of the territory and edited the Cheyenne Leader 1870 to 1887 He was a Mason G A R and Loyal Legion member His war record is noted and the obituary continues on page 3.
Fifty railroads, mostly east of Chicago and north of the Norfolk and Western, refused to grant an increase in wages sought by locomotive engineers. The engineers demanded about 19 percent annually. The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers said no compromise was offered and a second joint meeting with railroad representatives would be held after internal discussions.
Cleveland March 25 union officials considered a compromise on wage demands in western Pennsylvania Ohio Indiana and Illinois coal fields but decided that when the conference with operators resumes tomorrow miners will stick to the original demands for higher pay and shorter hours. The anthracite miners total about 175000 and all bituminous miners total about 350000.
In Hillewilie Virginia on March 25 the Allen outlaws hunt drags on as posse leaders say food shortages and prolonged chase threaten men. Sheriff Edwards reports a weeklong mountain pursuit has nearly exhausted the posse and they cannot sustain more days without supplies.
Washington reports say Senator Penrose refused to place Taft or Roosevelt on the Pennsylvania primary ballot. Taft faces weak machine support as Penrose resists both entreaties and bluffs. The outcome could affect Senate races and state politics through 1998.
Washington D C March 25 Isaac Stephenson Wisconsin millionaire lumberman and banker is formally placed on trial over the validity of his seat in the United States Senate Senator Reed of Missouri opposed Stephenson during the session It is expected the final vote will be reached Wednesday The debate focuses on whether Stephenson violated Wisconsin law and the possibility of acquittal or conviction influences.
In a Denver county convention Taft supporters defeated Roosevelt by 605 to 1 over a Roosevelt nomination substitute. The Denver delegation of 128 was instructed to vote as a unit for delegates to back Taft at the Colorado Springs slate convention. Frank Goudy elected temporary chairman.
In Lowell Massachusetts a major strike threatens to affect at least five thousand cotton mill workers who did not report to work. Today twelve hundred Appleton and Merrimack Mills operatives quit. The Appleton plant halted operations as strikers demand higher wages and protest a four to ten percent raise, with calls for fifteen to twenty percent.
Denver report records delegates to the Democratic City convention at Colorado Springs on April 29 being chosen uninstructed. The county convention named Kate mhonkua and Maydt Spoor to head the delegation after a unanimous vote.
One of ten Chicago packers charged under the Sherman anti trust law faced a jury in Chicago. At 4:40 the jury retired to deliberate on the verdict in a trial that began December 6, 1911. The expected verdict was awaited.
Mexico City report states a federal rout at Jiminez with General Salas said to have committed suicide. Generals Blanquet and Tellex wounded and many officers killed. fifty captured to Chihuahua. Orozco brings 164 carloads of rebels toward Torreon as federal troops retreat there may be a big fight tonight.
Reports from Jiminez and Mexico City on March 25 describe fierce fighting near Cerralitos with government forces pressed and rebels suffering higher casualties. Puebla's strategic position and the Mexican Southern Railway are in jeopardy as Zapatistas advance. Censorship limits information as De La Barra's Europe return sparks local tensions.
