March 24 Patrolman Jobin MeShea and Potlorman Richard Gormley of the sanitation district force were shot in a street fight with three robbers as they left a looted school. Meshes was seriously wounded and Gormley fatally wounded likely after police joined the exchange. Robbers escaped at hospital.
