Revolt in Mexican Garrisons Threatens Pershing Advance

Special to The Leader reports General Pershing facing a real war as Herrera and 2,000 Chihuahua troops revolt and join Villa. Col. Cano also defects to Villa, raising fears Pershing could be cut off. The unrest halts plans to use the Mexico Northwestern railroad for supplies and leaves soldiers weakened by harsh climate and pneumonia.

Mexican General Revolts Joins Villa and Declares War

General Herrera, commander at Chihuahua, reportedly revolted against the Carranza government and declared war on the United States while pledging support to Villa. Prairie and prairie-fire outbreaks sweep multiple states

Terrific fires driven by strong winds destroyed homes cattle and grain across Colorado Kansas Oklahoma and Tennessee. Firefighters battled blazes from Towner Colorado to Dodge City and Tulsa while Nashville suffered major residential losses. Dozens of structures burned and many people were displaced.

Twenty four Infantry Heads to Mexican Border from Cheyenne

The first battalion of the Twenty fourth Infantry entrains from Cheyenne for the Mexican border, destination El Paso Texas. Two more battalions join them today to strengthen the Pershing border link. The move depopulates Fort Russell, reducing Cheyenne’s population by about 300. families and officials adjust to the change as regiments move to war zones. The Twenty fourth joins Eleventh Infantry Fourth Field Artillery Ninth Cavalry and others already in action on the border.

Liquid fire aids German advance in trench battles

London dispatches report liquid fire played a major role in helping the Germans push forward several miles northwest of Verdun. French trenches were attacked near Averoort woods Pasterpific, though German artillery bombardment proved ineffective according to the latest army dispatches.
