Severe snow storms hit England and Ireland causing shipping and rail disasters. The Newbiggin fishing fleet loses nine lives after three boats sink off Northumberland. The steamer Upas sinks near County Down with seven dead. A Fleetwood boat train collision near Rochdale injures twenty six.
In a New England style fraud plot, Henry Turley and associates including Orahood and Davidson are charged with conspiring to fake Turley’s death and defraud a life insurer. Sheriff and prosecutor plan further charges as officers hunt accomplices at a Kansas farm and other locations.

New York dispatch reports the steamer Iroquois arriving with news that Santo Domingo Governor Zayas and two of his children were killed at Aluagi, about fifty-five miles southwest of Santo Domingo. He had traveled from Santo Domingo to Agua aboard the Iroquois to assume provincial duties.
Secretary Bryan marked his fifty fifth birthday by exchanging ratifications of the peace treaty with Italy and Count di Cellere. He later hosted all department employees and the cabinet at a birthday luncheon at his home.
Washington reports uncertain fate for Americans as Villa and Carranza forces fight a decisive battle for Tampico oil control. Villa commands about 28,000 in Tampico area while Carranza leads 25,000. Shao with 5,000 in the vanguard engages Carranzistas.

Berliners elect Herr Sassenbach a Socialist and labor union secretary to the city council. Eighty six affirmative ballots, sixteen blanks. This marks the first Socialist nomination to the post. Berin March 19.
Mrs Helen M Angle was found not guilty of manslaughter in the death of Waldo R Ballou in Bridgeport Connecticut. The jury returned the verdict after a short deliberation of about an hour.
