Edwin R. Spencer says Villa incited a band to murder during a raid on Columbus New Mexico. He described bandit hangings mutilation and arson, saw Carranza soldiers questioned, and recalled Villa’s fiery speech blaming Americans and Carranza soldiers for the unrest. Spencer, later taken as a scout, escaped near Hachita and reported on the events to authorities.
