Pershing Advances With Invasion Force Beside Mexican Border

Special to The Leader details General Pershing’s column sleeping at a second night bivouac somewhere in Mexico after starting from Columbus yesterday. Pershing escorted the border to assess friction, then returned toward the border this morning after a call on General Funston at Fort Sam Houston. A base hospital at Fort Bliss and transfer and field hospitals at Columbus Palomas prepare to treat wounded, including Mexicans with gangrene, as a second brigade under General Bell is formed to reinforce Pershing. Pershing relies on a Ford and plans an airplane lift to the field.

Tubantia Liner Torpedoed Off Amsterdam. 387 Saved

The Dutch liner Tubantia carrying 87 passengers and crew of 300 was torpedoed or struck by a mine off North Minder lightship after leaving Amsterdam for Buenos Aires. Three hours later rescue reported 387 saved and the ship wrecked, with uncertain cause.
