Stanford Leader Warns Hospitals for the Insane Need Reform
Dr. Ray Lyman Wilbur of Stanford, at the Annual Congress of Medical Education in Chicago, called American insanity hospitals a “truly terrible” system due to isolation and lack of teaching links. He urged teaching hospitals in big cities, medical school ties to mental care, and physicians guiding mental health decisions over lay jurists. He warned against turning medical education over to the state and promoted independent, endowed institutions to set high standards.

The yard has built 122 vessels, with a peak workforce near 35,000, now reduced to about 22,000, plan to further cut after June.
