Negro Soldier Slain by Regulars Near Newport News

In Newport News Virginia on March 2 a Black soldier from the 3rd negro regiment was killed and two others wounded when regulars of the 48th infantry fired on several hundred stevedores trying to wreck a store near their camp north of the city. The commandant blamed the clash on a dispute between a private and a white soda fountain clerk but said stevedores had been returned to camp and no further trouble is expected.
