House OKs bill to sever federal operation of railroads

The House voted 347 to 6 to pass the measure ending federal operation of railroads. The Senate already approved, and a conference will settle differences. The House plan returns roads to owners two years after the war, instead of eighteen months as the Senate proposed, and preserves rate setting with the president while the Interstate Commerce Commission handles profit controls. Senator Kenneth McKellar denounced profiteers in a letter to the chamber.

Burgess Dies After Illness at Local Saloon

Nivee Burgess, bartender at the e Ocean saloon, died at Pri Ole hospital late Wednesday from spinal meningitis. He arrived in Cheyenne from Colorado years ago and was connected with local business. He is survived by his wife and mother. His body will be shipped to Boulder, Colorado.

Hotel Porter Wounded by Dis Operator in Albany

James A. Levine reports that C. O Loy shot hotel porter William Ashford in the Albany hotel lobby after a dispute near the cigar stand. Ashford, struck in the chest, was taken to St. John’s hospital in critical condition. Loy, intoxicated, refused to detail the quarrel.

Washington February 28 An important conference was held at the White House this afternoon. President Wilson Secretary of State Lansing and Col. E M House the presidents personal adviser were closeted for more than two hours. It is supposed they went over the recent von Hehling peace utterances and the latest information that has come in concerning the Russian debacle. After the conference Colonel House said he would return to New York tonight.

Funeral of Mrs. Clark Held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church

Funeral services for Mrs. Gibson Clark were held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church with Rev. S. A. Houston and Dr. George C. Rafter presiding. Hopkin C. Clark arrived from California for the ceremony. Robert Clark stayed in California. John D. Clark returned from Washington. Mrs. Clark was laid to rest in Lakeview Cemetery.

Prominent rancher dies at Iron Mountain home

Archie McDonald 36 a well known rancher of Iron Mountain was found dead in his Iron Mountain home yesterday morning. Coroner Clyde Early left for Iron Mountain to reach the scene early today no details on the death were available late last night.
