J. Ross Carpenter reports William Jennings Bryan controls the scene as the convention adjourns after twenty six ballots with no choice. Bryan attacks Ryan Belmont and withdraws support from Clark, signaling a restructuring of Democratic support amid party turmoil.
Tomorrow in district court eight convicted men face sentencing for burglary assault murder grand larceny forgery manslaughter and related charges. The list includes Fred Knox Clarence Amsbury John Carson Thomas Fry Henry Pease Wm Gibson Tom Wheaton and William Stewart.
Clarence W. Hudson of Portland Oregon was elected and installed as supreme counsellor of the United Commercial Travelers of America at the supreme council session in Columbus.
In Baltimore the Democratic National Convention erupts as William Jennings Bryan declares he will withhold his vote for Champ Clark while New York continues to vote for him. He explains the move was to protest Murphy influence and pledged support for a genuinely progressive candidate.
Ballots taken yesterday in Baltimore for the presidential nomination show Marshall De Bryan and Kern among the first twelve names printed in Saturday Harking's Leader. The partial results reflect early preference counts in a contested nominating process.
Delay in the Jenkins murder trial grows as Wm. B. Ross, defense counsel, swears two judges from the bench claiming prejudice. The first was Judge Matson who recommended Judge Craig. Ross later swore Judge Craig, and moved to place Jenkins residence keys and Jenkins clothing in Watts and his custody for interior inspection. Judge Matson denied the motion.
Clark arrives in Baltimore after a conference with William R Hearst and leaders. He issues a signed statement saying Bryan must prove his claim that he would not vote for any man or colluded with Murphy and Tammany of New York. The Clark leaders label Bryan as the man behind the charges.
A. O. Minium Henry Beeler W A Fisher and E Fowler, former officers of International Asbestos Mills Northwestern Asbestos Mills North American Asbestos and Wyoming Consolidated Asbestos, were indicted by a federal grand jury in Casper for using the mails in a defraud scheme. The案 charges allege overcapitalization fake stock sales inflated value and unearned dividends with promoters taking most proceeds while investors were misled.
Duane Foster, 17, a Cheyenne High School senior, drowned while swimming with friends at Lake Minnehaha. Despite efforts by companions and rescuers, including pumped arm movements and aid from bystanders, Foster could not be revived. Survived by his parents and a younger sister, he faced graduation next year and played left half-back for La Ramie High. Funeral arrangements pending.
Oyster Bay June 29 Roosevelt said he expected to have a definite plan soon but the Baltimore convention was delaying him and he has postponed any move to form a third party.
In Baltimore on June 29 Senator Benjamin Tillman of South Carolina forcibly confronts Norman Mack and other officials over national committee tickets. He shouts threats, clashes with doorkeepers, and accuses manipulation as Mack arranges for ticket delivery while others debate ballots and the convention’s direction.
