A fictitious report of Jack Bast’s death triggered alarm in Denver. Mrs Arline Blanchard of 1148 Vine Street denied involvement as police investigate the hoax. Dr J H Bast and Miss Catherine Ragan faced distress before confirmation the son is alive near Cody. The false tale spread via telephone and telegraph amid damaged communications.

Four Indian cyclists from York Nebraska to Pikes Peak Colorado halted in Cheyenne Sunday camping at Sampson brothers bicycle wigwam. They reported rough muddy roads east of the city with washed out wagon bridges and said they crossed railroad bridges with their machines. Riders were Gus Gockean Howard Slouker Dr Calkins and Fred Gumlock. They were entertained at the Normandie hotel by local motorcyclists and praised the city.
