Seattle reports a mass rush to the Iditarod as gold reports ignite fever across the city. Estimates claim up to 15 000 travelers will head to the new diggings with mixed accounts of pay dirt from Otter Creek and five other creeks.
San Francisco officials announce postponement of the Langford Kaufman bout until June 25. Attorneys for Blot say the governor’s interference will be tested in court, while a secondary bout is planned to trigger court action. Four militia companies prepare at Monterey Presidio for rapid deployment if needed.

Bat Masterson believes Jack Johnson doubts beating James J. Jeffries and will not show full form against the retired champion when they meet on Independence Day. He notes Johnson’s past shows strength against others but predicts a tougher clash with Jeffries.

In San Francisco on June 17 17 year old Waguene Speyer died after plunging from 50 feet while practicing in an aero pine glider tethered to an automobile. Speyer was the son of a wealthy widow of the city.
London reports Packy McParland KOing Jack Goldswain the English welterweight champion in the third round, in a dramatic bout. The upset victory solidifies McParland's claim to the title and draws wide attention from fans and press.
Aviator Charles K Hamilton plans a Nashville tour for a United States Army maneuvers fundraiser. He regrets missing a meeting with Colonel Roosevelt and hopes the former president will witness his aerial display from Mineola after the Nashville trip.
