Washington June 9. House public lands committee sought the source of propaganda opposing Secretary Lane's farms for soldiers and sailors project. Chairman Sinnott cited circulars accusing Atkeson of the National Grange of not getting a fair hearing when he spoke against the measure.
Responding to a Hillsdale report of a Mexican riot, Undersheriff Davis and Deputy Larsen rushed to the farming town 184 east of Chico and arrested Pedro Lara for slashing Alfonso Gomez during a spree. They returned with Lara at 1 30 this morning.
Dan C. Barkedale buys from Yrad W. Munn Los Angeles half of lot 1 and 2 block 43 for 5200 and 14 qald west 64 on half of lot 2 to Albert for 1200. Barkedale will improve his portion with 6600 for an eight room house he will occupy as his home. Parcel lies at southwest corner of Twood House streets.
A $1100 reward is posted for three Mexican men suspected in the murder of a Colorado patrolman and in a string of burglaries in Ault, Pierce, and Greeley between April and June. Authorities in Wyoming add $500 for the slayer’s arrest and conviction.

Governor Runyon warned that radical tactics could bring chaos, while Samuel Gompers pledged that organized labor will oppose political or industrial tyranny and uphold wartime principles.
Madison. a general strike of all union labor in Madison threatens to shut down industry. Four thousand five hundred workers at the East shop have been out for weeks. Fourteen shops have signaled they may join the sympathetic strike if it spreads.
Salt Lake City doctor Der M. Schipp, head of a local advertising physicians firm, was shot and fatally wounded by patient Mike Granapulos after requesting a refund of fees. Granapulos reportedly demanded money and opened fire, wounding the doctor in the chest near his nears.
Representative Kahn of California, chair of the House military committee, declared opposition to the Triple Alliance during remarks in the House. He spoke after returning from two months in Europe, noting Wilson's pledge to aid France against German attacks.

S FP Heerving, president of the Switchmen's Union, says labor will not accept a cent cut and envisions workers’ children attending college alongside the wealthy. He calls industry should serve, not profit. The plan for federal railroad operation by a joint board is endorsed. Acting President Timothy Shar hopes all four big railroad crafts unite for workers. Delegates tally 1887 with many visitors for the session running into July.
