High School Lass of 1918 at Tonight's Commencement

The Cheyenne High School class of 1916 era finishes its school year with a play at the Masonic Temple and the commencement exercises in the gym tonight. Diplomas will be awarded to 34 seniors by William Storey. President C A Dunaway of the University of Wyoming delivers the address. Miss Mildred Burke sings, Miss Julia Cohen plays, and Miss Gladys Cole gives the salutatory on “The Lincoln Highway.” Valedictorian Miss Cassie Lefakse speaks on “The Education of Our Foreign Population.” The class project featured a play written by Miss Alese Tyson and staged by classmates, with some omissions due to surveying duties.

Germans Capture Vaux in Advance on Verdun

BARLIAN June 7 The second Verdun fort fell to the crown prince’s troops as Fort Vaux was captured after an eight hour assault. French defenders died at their posts or were taken prisoners as Germans seized ammunition and guns. Fort Vaux lies five miles north west of Verdun near Fort Douaumont. The loss breaks the outer Verdun northeast defense and clears a trench barrier toward the city. An artillery duel at hill 304 continues as the next objective.

Jury Secured to Try Orpet at Wallkegan

Arrest Texan on Charge of Axe Murders

J Moran was arrested in Wills Point Texas today charged with murdering his father in law H P Goodnight president of the Van Zendt National bank and the Goodnight wife and their daughter. Mrs Goodnight was attacked with a axe or hammer and though wounded expected to recover. Moran said he woke to his wife screaming and that his father in law was to be head crushed.

Wilson Maying to Arbitrate U S Mexico Dispute

Washington reports a proposal to submit the entire U S Mexico relationship to an international commission. If accepted it could frame a final settlement of differences between President Wilson and the Carranza government with equal commissioners outside both countries. In Chihuahua City an anti American riot was suppressed after a protest against U S troops, with stones hurled at the foreign club and the American consulate.

University of Wyoming confers multiple degrees at commencement

The University of Wyoming held its annual commencement in Taramie with diplomas awarded to forty three graduates. Master of arts degrees went to three, including C. C. Schwiering, Cheyenne High School principal. Sixteen normal school certificates and twenty three BA degrees were distributed as Governor Kendrick and state officers attended. Judge Charles B.
