Wilson assures farmers on marketing reforms and price hopes
In Washington on June 1 President Wilson told Northwestern spring wheat growers the government will protect farmers in marketing crops and keep prices high enough to stimulate production. He said no minimum price will be fixed, as prices are expected to stay strong without such a policy. Farmers favor federal operation of grain exchanges and elevators. The Senate debate on the administration food control bill continues with a ten minute limit per senator and a pending vote tomorrow. An amendment broadens hoarding penalties and another lets the president suspend grain exchanges with futures trading.
