Seventy five German and fifty American refugees arrive by special train from Chihuahua after consent demanded by American consul Marion Letcher. They describe a critical Chihuahua situation and fear looting and anti foreign unrest as rebels bar further arms imports.
Rebel headquarters in Chitra Mexico on May 81 reported seventy five thousand pesos raised toward a one million peso goal. Businessmen fear no total without drastic measures and Orozco may issue scrip as a last resort. Germans deserting the town and no federal action reported south of there. Huerta’s advance seems unlikely due to burned bridges and tracks. Washington meanwhile notes quiet in Mexico City and state of Mexico with bad conditions in Sinaloa Guerrero Morelos Oaxaca and the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
San Diego reports Juror testimony cites four thousand dollars given to influence verdict. City council seeks an extra session to form a state constabulary amid IWW tensions as federal grand jury probes neutrality issues in San Diego. California officials announce a basis of sanity and fairness as IWW disbands and promises no further disturbances.
Three men sleeping in the same bed faced a preliminary hearing over a double murder of Italian businessman Join Gliachino and employer Peter Nora. Joseph Romeo, an accessory after the fact, testified as investigators traced weapons to Romeo’s house Monett Murdock and Hispo disputed Romeo’s account, with future appearances slated for September in district court.
The international congress on aviation laws in Paris adopts a rule requiring pilots to log any birth or death on an aircraft and notify authorities at the first port of descent. The rule applies to events occurring on airships and other aircraft in flight.
Anniston Alabama May 31. Whitt Scarborough a well to do planter took his two children Evelyn six and Knox four to a lonely spot near his home at Choccolocco and gave each a dose of carbene in soothing syrup. After ensuring their deaths he swallowed a large dose himself and died.

They argue voters distrust vague pledges and want concrete plans on tariffs, trusts, living costs, and corporate power. Republicans focus on personalities while Democrats target substantive policy choices and the record of elected leaders.
The Interstate Commerce Commission sets new wool shipping rates from Western states to take effect June 1. Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah growers expect annual savings over $400,000. Rates from Denver, Cheyenne and Trinidad to Boston drop to $1.32 per hundred pounds, with gradual increases westward to $1.72 from Ogden and Salt Lake, a 41 cent cut from current levels.
George Brundage long time Sheridan County real estate pioneer and member of the Wyoming legislature died near Sheridan, Wyoming two miles south of the city. Born in 1822 in New York, he arrived in Sheridan in 1881 and left six children surviving. He attended the recent Democratic state convention at Cheyenne by proxy and was noted as a steadfast Democrat and cudelti gen. He was a member of Wyoming's first legislature.
Rawlins Wyo May 31 A message from Long Beach California says J C Miller president of the Rawlins National Bank died there at 4 50 pm of Brights disease His remains will be brought back for burial He was a prominent stock owner sheep raiser in Carbon county and a Mason Shriner and member of the Odd Fellows.
A Kansas City gathering at the A O U W hall under the Baraca class of Central Baptist church hosted a Young Ladies Debating society. Priscillas Abigails and Nanacws gathered as the group sang No One Loves Me and welcomed an agent selling a patent elixir of site, ending the session with an uproar.
Cincinnati dispatch reports President William H Taft richer than brother Charles P Taft based on tax returns compared here. It cites Taft with $74,950 in personal property and $5,050 in bank accounts versus Charles Taft $20,000 property and $300 in bank deposits, highlighting a financial discrepancy between brothers.
In San Diego court, Franklin testified that Clarence Darrow offered to pay $5,000 as a fine and $7,000 for his family’s protection if he pleaded guilty in the McNamara trial. Franklin said Darrow urged bribery of juror George N. Lockwood and named other Los Angeles men as targets.
The Rev. C. C. Cissel, pastor and district superintendent, resumed duties after Minneapolis allegation of him in a hotel room with a delegate from Indianapolis. A detective led the incident as married witnesses cried, beer bottles littered the room, and police intervened. Cissel and the woman left the city. he returned to Indiana.
In Poughkeepsie New York a baby was born with one head and three bodies to Mrs. Joseph Muchenhaupt. Surgeons in the Mockenhaupt home severed the three bodies attached to the normal infant and removed part of the tongue to save the girl. The two extra bodies were alive at birth and breathed through a tube connected to the main child. Doctors fear the living infant may die young.
A sightseeing car skidded and turned turtle on Hoffmann Boulevard in Queens early today. One man, John Kagan of New York, was killed and fourteen others were injured in the crash.
Mechanic Lemuel Schickling was killed after refusing a drink of whisky to Peace Krug and Krag. The trio allegedly quarrelled over the bottle, knocked Schickling down, and beat him to death before fleeing. Krug claims no memory of the events while Peace lies seriously ill and Krag remained at the hospital.
President Gomez telegraphed General Monteagudo stating he might permit American Marines to land on Cuban soils to push foreign property. Cuban forces could retire from guarding sites and focus on pursuing insurgents in Oriente province.
Roosevelt denies plans to attend the Chicago convention and warns against any Ohio compromise to award Taft delegates. He says his position could change, but currently no intention to go to Chicago. The notice cites his telegram condemning a six delegates at large proposal and calls negotiations treachery to the people.
Denver officials report United States district court action to appoint a friendly receiver for the Laramie and Northwestern railroad. William W. Garwood, chair of the new board, seeks court protection to halt bondholder and creditor pressure amid reports of threats and stockholder discontent. Judge R B Lewis to hear petition. creditors claim $425,000 in debt and seek orderly management to preserve property.
