Women survive five hours buried in abandoned mine

Three women from Latrobe area went berry picking and were buried for five hours after an abandoned coal mine roof collapsed. They fought off a large snake and were rescued by farm hands. Two remain in serious condition. The incident occurred about three miles from Latrobe, Pennsylvania. State authorities investigated safety concerns following the accident near Latrobe.

Cow Causes Freight Cars to Plunge From Bridge in Yards

A yard engine pushing boxcars near the roundhouse north of Pioneer park derailed five empties after striking a cow on a bridge about a hundred yards north of the coal chute. No one was found trapped beneath the wreckage when cleared and the track was reopened quickly for the delayed passenger train.

Auto Tour to Cheyenne From Denver for Glidden Tour Races

Denver motorists are invited to travel by car to Cheyenne on August 17 to attend the races. The 115 mile trip from Denver should take about five hours with a 7am start, reaching Cheyenne by noon for lunch and racing. The Cheyenne Motor Club prepared to host them, promising royal entertainment, and the day features a 200 mile free for all for gasoline cars with six to seven Denver entrants, plus a 25 mile out of town car race preceding the main event and a 10 mile world record exhibition by George Hering in a Stanley steamer.
