Garver notes Europe’s crop risks, Austrian purchases, and potential shifts in shipping if a blockade or wider conflict arises.
English society discusses the separation of the Marquis of Anglesey and Lady Marjorie Manners. After a two year marriage and a daughter, the Marquis left he went to Aix-les-Bains for a cure then Naples with only a secretary. He now refuses to return. Hastings Neb July 28 John H Powers known as the father of Populism in Nebraska though over 80 years old has been invited to be temporary chairman of the Populist state convention to be held here today and has accepted and will make a speech. Many old-time leaders of the once powerful party are here for the convention but attendance is not expected to be large. The Populists are not decided on independent action in the coming campaign.
Louis Irley of Joplin Missouri and Carl Johnson of Salt Lake City are held in county jail after the murder of Mitchell F. Mulloy of Blue Lakes Nebraska. Mulloy, beaten and dumped in a Nebraskan lake, vanished after a dispute with a Jerome Idaho driver while en route to Twin Falls.
A Denver convention adopted a resolution censuring Mayor L. J. Duncan of Butte for alleged statements about Western Federation of Labor President Charles H. Moyer. The measure demands retraction and threatens expulsion from the Socialist party if not.
